Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Kidney Transplant Coordinator to join our team at University of Utah Health. As a key member of our transplant program, you will play a vital role in facilitating the education and evaluation of recipients and live donors, as well as providing ongoing assessment, monitoring, education, and intervention in the care of transplanted patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement education programs for recipients, donors, and healthcare providers to promote understanding of transplantation and organ donation.
  • Evaluate and interview potential recipients and donors, scheduling lab work and procedures as needed.
  • Coordinate live donor transplants, assisting in transplant procedures as required.
  • Obtain deceased donor information, authorize final cross-match, and coordinate hospital admission for recipients.
  • Prepare patients for discharge by educating them and their families on medications, home monitoring, lab tests, clinic visits, daily activities, and follow-up care.
  • Review patient lab tests, monitoring records, and assess patient problems to ensure optimal care.
  • Participate in hospital committees, staff meetings, patient care conferences, and continuing education to stay current on the latest trends in transplantation.
  • Provide transplant education to nursing staff and promote public education regarding transplantation and organ donation.
  • Collaborate with transplant surgeons and physicians to ensure appropriate admission, surgery, and post-surgery care.
  • Supervise and evaluate department support staff as needed.
  • Work closely with financial coordinators to provide transplant information, insurance coverage, and contractual agreements to third-party reimbursement.
  • Coordinate activities and materials to raise awareness for specific programs and implement strategies for the promotion and expansion of services for target groups.
Requirements
  • Certified Clinical Transplant Coordinator Certification (CCTC) within three years of hire.
  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system.
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the interstate compact if switching residency to the State of Utah.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • Five years of clinical nursing experience in the specific functional area.
  • Prior experience in transplant.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands

This position involves light work that may exert up to 20 pounds and may consistently require light work involving lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving objects involving patient care or medical equipment.
