Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Lung Transplant Coordinator to join our team at University of Utah Health. As a key member of our transplant program, you will play a vital role in facilitating the education and evaluation of recipients and live donors pre and post-transplantation.

Responsibilities
  • Educate recipients and their families, as well as potential donors, regarding transplantation, expected outcomes, tissue typing, risks, complications, and patient responsibilities.
  • Provide emotional support to patients and their families.
  • Evaluate, interview, and screen potential recipients, transplant candidates, and donors using predetermined criteria.
  • Schedule lab work and procedures to evaluate potential recipients and donors and compile reports.
  • Schedule live donor transplants and assist in transplant procedures during live donor transplants.
  • Obtain deceased donor information, authorize final cross-match, contact the recipient, assess the recipient's health, and coordinate hospital admission.
  • Prepare patients for discharge by educating them and their families regarding medications, home monitoring, lab tests, clinic visits, daily activities, and follow-up.
  • Review patient lab tests, patient monitoring records, and assess patient problems.
  • Participate in hospital committees and staff meetings, participate in patient care conferences, and continuing education to stay up-to-date on the latest trends in transplantation.
  • Provide transplant education to nursing staff and provide public education regarding transplantation and organ donation.
  • Promote the transplant program to internal and external customers to maintain and increase patient referrals.
  • Participate in the development of all department policies, protocols, and research projects.
  • Monitor the electronic submission of all UNOS registration and updates.
  • Collaborate with the transplant surgeon and transplant physician to ensure appropriate admission, surgery, and post-surgery care.
  • May supervise and evaluate department support staff.
  • Work closely with financial coordinators to provide transplant information, insurance coverage, and contractual agreements to third-party reimbursement.
  • Coordinate activities and materials to raise awareness for specific programs and implement strategies for the promotion and expansion of services for specific target groups.
Requirements
  • Certified Clinical Transplant Coordinator Certification (CCTC) within three years of hire.
  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system.
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah, or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the interstate compact if switching residency to the State of Utah.
  • Maintain current Interstate Compact (multi-state) license if residency is not being changed to Utah.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • Five years of clinical nursing experience in the specific functional area.
  • ICU experience preferred.
  • Prior experience in transplant.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands

This position involves light work that may exert up to 20 pounds and may consistently require light work involving lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving objects involving patient care or medical equipment.
