Job Summary

The University of Utah Health is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Transplant Nursing Supervisor to oversee the clinical nursing positions, support staff, and processes within the Cardiothoracic Transplant and MCS Programs. This role requires a strong leader who can coordinate and oversee work assignments, ensure the delivery of patient care that promotes safety and well-being, and develop and implement policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the work of an area in the department in mission, vision, and values.
  • Drive the operation in alignment with the goals and strategy of the department.
  • Schedule labor and equipment.
  • Accountable for the accurate reporting of time and attendance of direct reports.
  • Actively participate and lead patient selection committee meetings.
  • Provide input related to patient selection and assure clinical treatment decisions have been assigned for completion by the appropriate transplant team member.
  • Supervise clinical operations within individual transplant programs and assist teams in the resolution of operational issues.
  • Represent all programs within Transplant quality structure, assisting with event reviews and post-event staff education.
  • Provide Emergency Transplant Waitlist placement approval for patients without insurance authorization.
  • Provide administrative approval for organ acquisition or organ perfusion-related expenses.
  • Lead the implementation of new processes or procedures and the development of training for clinical transplant staff.
  • Manage Transplant IT issues and assist staff with resolution or escalation.
  • Collaborate with Transplant Program Managers to maintain operational compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and transplant-specific regulations.
  • Collaborate with Transplant Program Managers to develop annual transplant program budgets.
  • Manage monthly Medicare Time Study reporting.
  • May manage the hiring, orienting, and development of staff.
  • May conduct employee evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary processes.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
  • Two years of transplant nursing experience, which includes direct care to pre or post-transplant recipients within the last 5 years.
  • Certification by the American Board for Transplant Certification as a Certified Clinical Transplant Coordinator, Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator, or Certified Clinical Transplant Nurse must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah, or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the interstate compact if switching residency to State of Utah.
  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system.
  • One of the following: Certified Clinical Transplant Nurse (CCTN), Certified Clinical Transplant Coordinator (CCTC), or Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator (CPTC).
