Key Responsibilities

Drive the Transition in Energy Systems

As a Senior/Principal Transmission Planning Engineer, you will take charge of conducting and leading sophisticated power system analyses for utilities and Independent System Operators (ISOs) in the Western United States. In your leadership role, you will engage in client meetings, assist in drafting proposals and scopes of work, and mentor junior engineers.

Your Impact:
  • Conduct comprehensive bulk power system analyses utilizing various power systems software such as PSLF, TARA, DSA Tools, and Aspen.
  • Execute both generic and specialized assessments of the power grid, including generation interconnection studies, transmission system planning, remedial action evaluations, black-start assessments, and sub-synchronous resonance evaluations.
  • Formulate mitigation strategies for identified steady-state and dynamic constraints and system challenges.
  • Oversee the timely execution of assigned projects while adhering to quality and budgetary goals.
  • Engage with clients to gather feedback and address their needs and concerns regarding the projects under consideration.
  • Guide and train electrical engineers in conducting power system analyses.
  • Develop and refine methodologies and processes for transmission planning studies.
  • Participate in WECC Sub-Committees and advocate for the EPE brand.
  • Lead initiatives for process enhancements to improve efficiency and support business development efforts.

  • Quality of completed studies/tasks.
  • Efficiency in task completion within or below allocated hours.
  • Adherence to deadlines.
  • Billable hours.
  • Support for team members and contribution to overall team progress.
  • Execution of high-level bulk power system studies using various power systems software.
  • Accountability for the timely completion of assigned projects while meeting quality and budget objectives.
  • Client engagement to address needs and concerns related to ongoing projects.
  • Leadership and training of electrical engineers in power system analyses.
  • Execution of specialized studies of the power grid.

Qualifications

Essential Skills and Experience:
  • Experience as a Power Systems Engineer with a Bachelor of Science or higher in Electrical Engineering, focusing on power systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and build strong internal and external relationships.
  • Hands-on experience with steady-state and dynamic base cases in the WECC region.
  • Solid grasp of power system fundamentals, transient stability, and proficiency in software tools like PSLF and TARA.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal, particularly in conveying technical information.
  • Strong technical and report writing capabilities.
