Role Summary
The Operations Engineer plays a crucial role in supporting the Resource Operations Analysis & AS Testing team. Responsibilities include conducting testing for Ancillary Service qualification of supply-side resources, such as Generation Resources and Energy Storage Resources, in accordance with ERCOT protocols. The engineer will evaluate actual events and disturbances to assess resource performance against established protocols and NERC standards, and will develop operational strategies to enhance power system performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply principles and theories relevant to the profession and ERCOT's organizational culture.
  • Utilize judgment within defined procedures to determine appropriate actions.
  • Respond to inquiries and provide guidance to junior team members.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Act as a technical Subject Matter Expert for the department.
  • Make independent decisions on complex engineering issues.
  • Lead efforts to resolve intricate engineering challenges through thorough analysis.
  • Coordinate and participate in stakeholder meetings with ERCOT personnel and industry regulatory agencies.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships across teams and departments.
  • Mentor and guide less experienced engineers and analysts.
  • Utilize advanced power system software applications and tools for analysis and reporting.
  • Stay informed on emerging trends and best practices in the industry.
  • Assist in developing processes that enhance system reliability and operational efficiency.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in power system engineering or a related role within the electric utility sector.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in data analysis and working with large datasets or relational databases.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

Certifications

  • PE Professional Engineer certification is preferred.

Work Location
Employees are expected to work on-site a minimum of two days per week, with flexible scheduling options available based on business needs.
