Job Summary

Austin Energy is seeking a highly skilled Power System Graduate Engineer or Power System Engineer to join our Substation Engineering department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for applying technical standards, codes, principles, and concepts to perform engineering calculations and design, preparing technical documentation, specifying equipment and materials, and supporting field construction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Apply technical standards, codes, principles, and concepts to perform engineering calculations and design
  • Prepare technical documentation, including specifications and drawings
  • Specify equipment and materials for substation projects
  • Support field construction and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions
Requirements
  • Graduation with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering
  • Three (3) years of experience related to the job, or a Master's degree in engineering that may substitute for up to two (2) years of experience
  • Knowledge of electric power systems, substation electrical and physical design, and regulatory requirements
  • Experience with AutoCAD, substation project estimates, bill of materials, equipment specifications, and manufacture drawing approvals
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and projects
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience conducting substation grounding studies
  • Knowledge of national, state, and local regulatory requirements and rules, including NERC and ERCOT
  • Experience providing engineering field support to electric utility technical personnel
