Key Responsibilities

Drive Change in Power Systems

In the role of Senior/Principal Transmission Planning Engineer, you will lead and conduct advanced power system analyses for utilities and ISOs in the western United States. Your leadership will extend to client meetings, proposal drafting, and mentoring junior engineers.

Impactful Contributions:
  • Conduct comprehensive bulk power system analyses utilizing various power systems software, including PSLF, TARA, DSA Tools, and Aspen.
  • Execute both generic and specialized studies of the power grid, encompassing generation interconnection studies, transmission system planning, remedial action evaluations, black-start assessments, and sub-synchronous resonance evaluations.
  • Formulate mitigation strategies for identified steady-state and dynamic constraints and system challenges.
  • Ensure timely project completion while adhering to quality and budgetary standards.
  • Engage with clients to gather insights and address their requirements and concerns regarding ongoing projects.
  • Lead and mentor electrical engineers in executing power system analyses.
  • Develop and assess methodologies and processes for transmission planning studies.
  • Participate in WECC Sub-Committees and advocate for the EPE brand.
  • Initiate process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and support business development initiatives.

  • Quality of completed studies/tasks.
  • Efficiency in task completion within or below allocated hours.
  • Adherence to deadlines.
  • Billable hours.
  • Support for team members and contribution to overall team progress.
  • Conduct high-level bulk power system studies using various power systems software.
  • Assume responsibility for timely project completion while meeting quality and budget objectives.
  • Engage with clients to address their needs and concerns regarding projects.
  • Lead and mentor electrical engineers in power system analyses.

Qualifications

Essential Skills and Experience:
  • Previous experience as a Power Systems Engineer with a Bachelor of Science or higher in Electrical Engineering, focusing on power systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and build strong internal and external relationships.
  • Hands-on experience with steady-state and dynamic base cases in the WECC region.
  • Solid understanding of power system fundamentals, transient stability, and proficiency in software tools such as PSLF and TARA.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal, particularly in conveying technical information.
  • Strong technical and report writing capabilities.
