Position Overview:

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) initiative integrates the Missile Defense System. This essential operational framework empowers the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at various strategic levels to systematically orchestrate ballistic missile defense operations, visualize the evolving battle landscape, and dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapon systems to fulfill global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC facilitates a multi-layered missile defense capability that optimizes responses to threats across all ranges and phases of flight. It serves as a force multiplier, globally and regionally networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems to enhance operational performance. C2BMC is critical to all system ground and flight tests, validating and exercising both current and future missile defense capabilities.

The successful Lead Systems Engineer will be responsible for developing use cases and preparing systems engineering documentation, including the definition of Epics and Features, under the guidance of the Engineering Support ART. These will be developed by program Cross-Functional Product Teams to implement capabilities requested by customers. The Systems Engineer will actively participate in Agile development efforts, including iteration planning, status updates, and agile team leadership.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist in the development and review of interface documents, system requirements, Verification Cross Reference Matrix (VCRM) creation, architectural documentation, system engineering estimates, and conduct formal and informal engineering reviews.
  • Provide mentorship in use case development to junior systems engineering team members to enhance their skills.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and readiness to support various tasks on short notice.
  • Work under the direction of the ART and various product owners, interfacing with team members, C2BMC management, and government clients to ensure high-quality deliverables are produced on schedule and within available resources.
  • Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills, effectively conveying technical approaches and findings. Capable of drafting and implementing engineering plans within a project.
  • Experience collaborating in an integrated team environment with other systems, software, and specialty engineers to devise solutions.
  • Showcase contributions to implementations that involve analyzing high-level needs and defining a structured, logical approach to refine capabilities into a cohesive set of requirements leading to a fielded product.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively and present technical approaches and findings clearly.
  • Experience in drafting and executing engineering plans within a project.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited institution and 5 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree in a STEM discipline with 3 years of experience, or a PhD with no experience.
  • Understanding of systems engineering processes and principles.
  • Relevant experience working in an integrated team environment with other systems and specialty engineers to develop solutions, encompassing all aspects of the systems development life cycle.
  • Proven track record of successfully applying systems engineering principles to create product solutions.
  • Experience in developing systems engineering artifacts (e.g., specifications, Interface Control Documents, Use Cases, System Architecture Descriptions, Trade Studies, etc.).
  • Adherence to DOORS processes and procedures, reviewing technical product content and details, and acting as a technical interface to MDA working-level counterparts as needed.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs.
  • Applicants must possess a current active in-scope DoD issued secret security clearance at the time of application, with the capability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Top Secret clearance is highly preferred.
  • Experience working within an Agile development environment, with domain expertise in Space and Missile Defense.
  • Experience in Systems Analysis, Metric Development, Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), and Architecture development.
