FLSA Status: Full-Time / Exempt

Work Shift: 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. / Mon. – Fri.

SUMMARY

The role of the Safety Representative is vital within EMCOR Government Services. The successful candidate will collaborate with the Director of Loss Control and the Project Team to uphold safety protocols, processes, and guidelines aimed at preventing illnesses or injuries due to various hazards, including chemical, physical, biological, and ergonomic factors. This position offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in conducting inspections, performing accident investigations, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support the Director of Loss Control in implementing procedures that safeguard workers from potentially dangerous work methods and materials.
  • Manage administrative tasks, including data entry for injury reporting in the safety management information system (SMIS) as per company protocols.
  • Maintain records for the Fleet Program and ensure accurate documentation.
  • Assist in investigating accidents to determine causes and recommend preventive measures.
  • Collaborate with the project team to evaluate workplace environments and practices for compliance with safety standards.
  • Regularly update Health and Safety Plans (HASP), Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), and other safety documentation as directed.
  • Coordinate safety training sessions and ensure all employees possess the necessary certifications for their roles.
  • Conduct scheduled and unscheduled safety audits at job sites, enforcing safety protocols and reporting violations.
  • Assist with daily safety inspections of tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Support the completion of incident reports and investigations.
  • Promote a culture of zero accidents across all company operations.
  • Facilitate drug and alcohol testing as required.
  • Ensure compliance with the Safety Program, OSHA regulations, and company policies to maintain safe working conditions.
  • Perform additional tasks as required by the operational needs of the company.
  • Meet background check and fitness for duty requirements as necessary.
  • Possess a valid state driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in work schedule and location as needed.

PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in health and safety, environmental science, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a safety role within the construction sector.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety Plans (HASP) and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA).
  • Completion of OSHA 30-hour construction safety training or equivalent, with ongoing education every four years.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations and safety practices at federal, state, and local levels.
  • Certifications such as CHST, STS, or OSHA 500 are advantageous.

COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Experience with project and financial software is a plus.
