Position Overview

The Transportation division in Portland is seeking a dedicated and skilled Civil Engineer with a background in railway, roadway, highway, and/or civil site design. This position is integral to our established Rail/Transit engineering team, engaging with a wide range of transportation clients and projects across the West Region. Responsibilities may include:

  • Designing roadways
  • Developing freight and transit track designs
  • Conducting transportation and multi-modal planning
  • Engaging in transit planning and design
  • Overseeing construction management and safety audits

In this role, you will collaborate with colleagues across the West Region on rail and transit infrastructure projects for various governmental entities. Key responsibilities include:

  • Acting as a senior technical resource and advisor for the team
  • Providing specialized technical insights for studies and designs
  • Creating study and design procedures to enhance quality and cost-effectiveness
  • Participating in interdisciplinary reviews of project deliverables
  • Estimating construction costs and technical efforts for projects
  • Utilizing expertise in completing discipline components of PS&E packages
  • Conducting quality control reviews of design calculations and drawings
  • Preparing technical specifications
  • Contributing to the development of engineering budgets and schedules
  • Mentoring junior staff members

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with a minimum of 6 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Oregon Professional Engineer License or the ability to obtain it within six months
  • Experience in designing and producing plans for transportation and civil infrastructure projects
  • Prior experience in railroad and roadway design for transportation initiatives
  • Proven ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment in problem-solving
  • Familiarity with InRoads and/or Civil 3D design software for conceptual and detailed design
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Design-Build experience is preferred
