Job Summary

The San Francisco Zoological Society is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Vice President of Development to lead our Development Department and drive fundraising efforts to support our mission to connect visitors with wildlife and promote conservation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Determine key departmental strategies and execute grant writing and donor relations efforts
  • Manage a team of Development and support staff, including supervising subordinate supervisors
  • Oversee and direct Development and support staff, prepare and administer Development budget
  • Optimize Development department day-to-day activities, including streamlining workflows and approving administrative functions
  • Plan, evaluate, and execute annual fundraising events independently or in conjunction with other Zoo Divisions
  • Form strategies and tactics for ancillary fundraising programs, such as Zoo II and associated fundraising events
  • Work with internal, external stakeholders, and/or strategic advisors to develop and execute a program to identify, solicit, and cultivate new donations
  • Oversee staff on grant and foundation proposals and identify new funding opportunities
  • Manage or assist in all internal and external communications, including Board reports, agency submissions, and promotional activities
  • Assist in developing strategic plans for Marketing and other Divisions
  • Represent the Zoo in sponsored events and prepare documents and presentations
  • Coordinate with the Office of the Executive Director/CEO on matters relating to the Zoo's Board of Directors
  • Conduct or coordinate with other Zoo staff on special tours for donors
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university, prefer advanced degree
  • Minimum ten years of increasing responsibilities in fundraising, development, and supervision
Work Environment

Salary Range

$125,000-$140,000
