Position Overview

We are seeking one or more Research Fellows to join our dynamic team in the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics. This role involves contributing to innovative research initiatives focused on advanced molecular simulations and machine learning applications in materials science.

Project Highlights

The successful candidate will engage in groundbreaking projects aimed at enhancing the reliability and accessibility of molecular simulations. Key projects include:
  • OpenKIM: A project dedicated to curating and validating interatomic potentials (IPs) through rigorous testing and the development of sophisticated software tools.
  • ColabFit: This initiative focuses on creating advanced data-driven machine learning IPs by establishing automated fitting frameworks and utilizing cutting-edge generative models.

Responsibilities

The selected individual will undertake various responsibilities, including but not limited to:
  • Integrating project functionalities into existing molecular simulation software.
  • Implementing state-of-the-art physics-based and machine learning interatomic potentials.
  • Developing computational protocols for the validation and verification of interatomic potentials.
  • Creating data science tools for uncertainty quantification and training of interatomic potentials.
  • Conducting scientific research in the field of molecular simulations.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in aerospace engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Strong analytical and programming skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple research projects effectively.
  • Excellent organizational, presentation, and writing abilities.
  • Demonstrated self-motivation and innovative thinking.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++, Python, and shell scripting.
  • Experience with DevOps tools including Git and continuous integration.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with OpenKIM development.
  • Experience in classical molecular simulations.
  • Background in developing machine learning methodologies.
  • Contributions to open-source projects in molecular simulation.
