The University of Minnesota is seeking a dedicated Postdoctoral Researcher specializing in organ cryopreservation for transplantation. This role is pivotal in advancing the fields of transplantation, regenerative medicine, and cell-based therapies, which are rapidly evolving and hold significant promise for enhancing human health.
Research Focus
The primary objective of this research initiative is to develop innovative methodologies for the cryopreservation, or "banking," of cells and tissues. This is crucial for ensuring the viability of donor organs and engineered cells during transportation and prior to treatment. The successful candidate will collaborate with esteemed faculty members from the Division of Solid Organ Transplantation and the Bioheat and Mass Transfer Laboratory.
Key Responsibilities
The role involves leading biological aspects of projects related to kidney cryopreservation. Responsibilities include:
- Conducting microsurgical procedures
- Performing ex vivo organ perfusion
- Carrying out biological assessments
- Documenting and maintaining protocols
- Analyzing data and summarizing findings
- Contributing to scientific publications
Initial research will focus on rodent models, transitioning to larger animal models as the project progresses. The position offers opportunities for involvement in multiple related research projects and leading proposal initiatives.
Qualifications
Required:
- MD, PhD, or MD/PhD with relevant surgical experience
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
Preferred:
- Experience in biological characterization and assessments
- Familiarity with microscopy techniques
- Proficiency in organ perfusion and preclinical surgeries
- Knowledge of cell and tissue culture methods
- Skills in data processing and statistical analysis
