Electrical Engineering Team Lead

The position of the Electrical Engineering Team Lead involves overseeing and actively participating in staff management, workflow optimization, design processes, and database organization while collaborating with various departments within Pieper Electric. This role encompasses the design, engineering, and layout of multiple projects, both conceptual and awarded, while providing expert support to operational branches. The Team Lead will supervise engineering personnel, manage outputs, and address backlogs to ensure top-tier deliverables and foster year-over-year growth and employee engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with architects, general contractors, and internal stakeholders to seamlessly integrate electrical systems into building designs.
  • Design comprehensive electrical systems, including but not limited to: distribution, lighting, branch power, motor controls, and arc flash coordination. Project types may include commercial, industrial, food service, residential, institutional, and warehousing.
  • Perform load calculations, select and specify equipment, and determine optimal equipment locations and pathways to maximize ROI while adhering to all regulatory standards.
  • Contribute to design efforts for pre and post-bid phases, including Design Assist, Design Build, and partial project calculations, ensuring all design contributions yield the best ROI.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and current codes while managing multiple project designs, schedules, and meetings to achieve timely deliverables.
  • Create templates for typical installations, including callouts, notes, and elevation views, covering aspects such as grounding, bonding, lighting, and electrical branch panels.
  • Maintain detailed records of design meetings, changes, and directives, along with incoming documentation to support electrical design with appropriate date stamps.
  • Organize and finalize electrical specifications and establish a structured folder system for team resources.
  • Oversee all projects and time tracking within Pieper Electric's ERP accounting software.
  • Forecast workloads, backlogs, and progress to facilitate effective resource allocation.
  • Collaborate with teams to update documents, software, standard operating procedures, and workflows, ensuring consistent best practices across all departments and projects.
  • Work alongside the Construction Services Manager to identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Supervise team dynamics and project statuses, ensuring quality, accuracy, and compliance with codes and project intent.
  • Assist in future staffing plans, educational initiatives, development strategies, performance reviews, and HR-related matters.
  • Support the development and implementation of workflows in collaboration with the team.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and manage staff workloads.
  • A Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a Wisconsin Design or PE certification is required, or alternatively, a minimum of 10 years of experience in electrical engineering or electrical construction design.
  • At least 10 years of experience utilizing electrical and construction-based design software is essential.
  • Proficiency in software tools including but not limited to: Bluebeam, Excel, Revit, AutoCAD, Smart Sheets, Autodesk Build, Accubid, PowerPoint, and Plan Grid.
