About the Role

Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deputy Director for Community Development and Housing to join our team. This is a full-time, 35-hour per week, salaried/exempt position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership: Provide strategic leadership and direction to the organization, working closely with the Executive Director and Management Team to draft and track strategic plans and management policies and practices.
  • Community Development: Lead, plan, develop, and support the organization's Community Development division, including affordable housing and facilities development, asset management, environmental sustainability, public benefits enrollment, and healthy/fresh food access.
  • Community Organizing: Grow the Community Organizing function at CHLDC, assisting organizers in winning housing and economic investments, stopping harmful public actions, and holding the City and State accountable for promises made.
  • Housing Counseling: Support the Housing Counseling division in preventing tenant harassment and evictions, mortgage foreclosures, scams, and helping residents obtain housing benefits.
  • Representation: Represent the Executive Director and agency to government and elected officials, foundation officers, and other supporters, as well as on national, state, and citywide coalitions and trade associations.
  • Leadership and Management: Run the organization in the absence of the Executive Director and report to the CHLDC Board of Directors on matters related to Community Development, Housing, and Organizing.
  • Staff Management: Hire, train, and evaluate staff, including the Director of Community Development, Director of Housing Counseling, and Director of Community Organizing.
  • Collaboration and Growth: Leverage cross-program strengths, support inter/intra-program collaboration and growth, and develop and maintain a strong government contract and financing agreement database and tracking process.
  • Financial Management: Work with the Executive Director, Chief Financial Officer, and Board to plan, coordinate, and execute the annual budget, and help establish sound internal controls and fiscal procedures.
  • Partnerships and Fundraising: Establish and maintain partnerships with other community-based organizations, local public schools, neighborhood houses of worship, and citywide community development, housing, and organizing agencies, and identify new opportunities to expand government and foundation supporters and individual donor base.
Qualifications
  • Education: Master of Science Degree in Public Administration, Urban Planning, or related field, or JD with a focus on community development/real estate.
  • Experience: Eight to ten years of nonprofit management, supervisory, and fundraising experience, with direct work experience in community development, affordable housing, asset management, environmental sustainability, housing counseling, tenant rights/organizing, and community organizing.
  • Skills: Excellent communications, program development and evaluation, staff development, and leadership skills, with a background in affordable housing finance and underwriting, and HUD Certified Housing Counselor or ability to obtain certification in the first year of employment.
