Position Overview

The Human Resources Specialist serves as the primary contact for the College of Education, responsible for the efficient intake and assessment of HR-related inquiries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently interpret and apply HR policies and procedures to address immediate inquiries and support strategic initiatives.
  • Utilize various technology platforms to manage essential HR functions, including:
    • Job descriptions
    • Recruitment and retention strategies
    • Contract management and offer letters
    • Employment authorizations, including documentation and visas
    • Payroll specifications and position management
    • Employee separations, transfers, and retirements
    • Personnel record administration

This role requires the ability to identify and resolve issues within HR program areas independently and to serve as a backup for other HR Specialists as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience: A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience from accredited institutions.

Essential Skills:

  • Proven ability to interpret and apply regulations independently.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Google Workspace applications.
  • Effective use of Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Proactive and self-directed work style with minimal supervision.
  • Strong collaborative and customer service orientation, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a generalist HR role.
  • Higher education degree in business, human resources, or a related field.
  • Experience in an academic or higher education setting.
  • Familiarity with HR information management systems, particularly PeopleSoft and PeopleAdmin.

Work Environment: This position requires a presence on campus to effectively fulfill essential duties. Employees must reside within a commutable distance to report to campus regularly.
