Practical Nurse Specialist

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) plays a crucial role in delivering nursing care and facilitating medical and psychiatric services for clients at Red Rock. This position ensures clients receive consistent and comprehensive care. If involved in the PACT model, the LPN will coordinate medication management, assess health requirements, and liaise with community healthcare providers. Responsibilities include administering medications in collaboration with psychiatrists and offering a spectrum of treatment and support services while sharing management duties with other team members.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducts thorough nursing evaluations to determine client needs and develop care plans. Provides treatment for both ongoing and urgent health issues. Evaluates medical suitability for admission and continuously monitors clients during their stay. Engages with psychiatrists when there are changes in medical conditions, facilitating referrals to appropriate care levels.
- Responsible for medication administration and maintaining accurate clinical records. Observes and documents client responses to medications and therapeutic interventions, taking necessary actions as required.
- Supervises the activities and responsibilities of Mental Health Assistants during assigned shifts.
- Monitors and assesses client progress, collaborating with other programs, agencies, and medical professionals as necessary to ensure client welfare.
- Documents care in accordance with nursing standards, agency policies, and procedures.
- Assists in daily evaluations of clients' mental health status.
- Performs a variety of professional nursing tasks under the guidance of a psychiatrist, including collecting laboratory samples, administering injectable and emergency medications, and communicating with pharmacies regarding medication orders.
- Maintains proficiency in managing co-occurring disorders through ongoing education and skill application in treatment.
- Counts and records locked PRN medications during each shift with the oversight of the registered nurse on duty.
- Participates in staff meetings, workshops, and training sessions to stay informed about agency policies, regulations, and procedures; engages in continuous in-service training and relevant external education.
- Contributes to the development and execution of program goals and objectives.
- Supports the creation and implementation of Care Plans for clients within the Red Rock Health Team.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
- Current LPN licensure in the state of Oklahoma.
- Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Experience in physical assessment and managing medical emergencies.
- Able to work flexible shifts.
- Dedication to the mission of Red Rock Behavioral Health Services.
- Preferred one year of experience, with familiarity in administering psychotropic medications.
- Knowledge of psychiatric nursing practices and procedures is advantageous.
- Experience in a psychiatric care environment is preferred.
- Certification in mental health nursing is a plus.
