Position Overview

Start Early is dedicated to providing exceptional care and a rich educational experience for children aged birth to five years. Our mission focuses on supporting low-income families through a research-driven curriculum that fosters essential literacy, language, early mathematics, and social-emotional skills necessary for success in kindergarten and beyond.

As an Early Childhood Education Assistant, you will collaborate closely with the Lead Teacher to design and execute daily educational activities tailored to the needs of each child. Your role will involve assessing classroom environments to ensure they are developmentally suitable and aligned with federal, state, and local standards, as well as our organization's educational philosophy.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and regularly update educational portfolios for each child while safeguarding all confidential information.
  • Complete and submit all required documentation to the Lead Teacher in a timely manner.
  • Engage in recruitment initiatives to support full enrollment of the program.
  • Monitor daily attendance, health assessments, parent check-ins, and meal participation reports as directed by the classroom teacher.
  • Observe and document each child's health, skills, behavior, growth, and developmental progress.
  • Follow all Individualized Education Programs and strategies provided by Education Managers or Consultants.
  • Create opportunities for children to build positive self-esteem and experience success.
  • Participate in Family/Child Reviews and identify developmental concerns, adhering to agency protocols.
  • Design and implement developmentally appropriate activities that promote social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth.
  • Utilize assessment data to create enriching learning experiences for children.
  • Establish a classroom environment that applies effective child guidance and discipline techniques in accordance with our educational philosophy and standards.
  • Assume classroom management responsibilities in the absence of the Lead Teacher.
  • Conduct Parent/Staff conferences and home visits, following established guidance policies.
Qualifications:

Applicants should possess a High School Diploma or G.E.D. along with six (6) semester hours of child development coursework and at least one year of experience in an early childhood or childcare setting. Alternatively, candidates may hold a non-expired CDA Certification with similar experience.

  • Successful completion of a background check by the Department of Children and Family Services is required.
  • A biannual physical examination and TB test are mandatory for initial and ongoing employment.
  • Familiarity with Early Head Start or similar developmental childcare programs is preferred.
  • Understanding of child development principles and practices for children aged 0-3.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Willingness to serve in a high-risk, low-income community.
  • Capacity for self-reflection and adaptability based on feedback and observations.
  • Flexibility to work within a schedule that may range from 7 am to 6 pm.
  • Effective communication skills to engage with diverse families and professionals.
  • Discretion in handling confidential information is essential.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new software as needed.
Compensation:

The salary range for this position is $30,810.00 to $35,467.00, with a potential sign-on bonus of up to $1,500.
