As an Assistant Teacher in our Early Head Start program, you will collaborate closely with the Lead Teacher to design and execute daily educational activities tailored to the developmental needs of each child. Your role will also involve ensuring that all classroom settings and activities align with federal, state, and local standards while reflecting our organization's educational philosophy.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and regularly update educational portfolios for each child, ensuring confidentiality is upheld.
  • Complete and submit all necessary program documentation punctually to the Lead Teacher.
  • Engage in recruitment initiatives to support full enrollment in our programs.
  • Monitor daily attendance, health assessments, parent check-ins, and meal participation as directed by the Lead Teacher.
  • Observe and document each child's health, skills, behavior, and developmental progress.
  • Follow all Individualized Education Programs and Family Service Plans as outlined by Education Managers or Consultants.
  • Encourage children to develop positive self-esteem and celebrate their achievements.
  • Participate in Family/Child Reviews.
  • Identify developmental concerns and adhere to agency protocols for addressing them.
  • Plan and facilitate developmentally appropriate activities that enhance children's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth.
  • Utilize assessment data to create enriching learning experiences that promote children's development.
  • Establish a classroom environment that employs effective child guidance and discipline techniques in line with our policies and standards.
  • Assume classroom management responsibilities in the absence of the Lead Teacher.
  • Conduct Parent/Staff conferences and adhere to relevant guidance policies.
  • Schedule and conduct home visits in accordance with established guidelines.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. with six (6) semester hours of child development coursework and one year of experience in early childhood education or childcare settings.
•OR High School Diploma or G.E.D. with a valid CDA Certification and one year of relevant experience.
•Successful completion of a background check by the Department of Children and Family Services.
  • Completion of a biannual physical examination and TB test is required for initial and ongoing employment.
  • Knowledge of Early Head Start and developmental childcare programs.
  • Understanding of child development principles and early childhood curricula for ages 0-3.
  • Ability to stay informed about advancements in the childcare field.
  • Capacity to work collaboratively as a supportive team member.
  • Willingness to serve in a high-risk, low-income community.
  • Ability to reflect on personal practices and adapt based on feedback and observations.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours between 7 am and 6 pm.
  • Strong communication skills to engage with diverse families and professionals.
  • Discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new software as needed.
Compensation:
Annual salary range of $30,810.00-$35,467.00, with a potential sign-on bonus of up to $1,500.
