Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Patient Care Associate to join our team at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. As a key member of our interdisciplinary healthcare team, you will provide clinical support functions to promote a safe and compassionate patient care environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out patient care plans as directed by a registered nurse.
  • Provide patient physical care, including bed baths, toileting, grooming, and changing bed linen, in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Assist with patient general care, including positioning, lifting, and turning, and using adaptive and transfer equipment as needed.
  • Perform patient monitoring activities, such as vital signs and blood glucose checks, in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Prepare patients for meals and assist with feeding as needed.
  • Perform regular patient rounds and respond promptly to call lights to meet patients' needs.
  • Document patient care in a timely and accurate manner, adhering to established standards.
  • Organize patient rooms to maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Collect and label specimens in accordance with established procedures.
  • Provide mentoring and teaching to new nursing assistants to ensure performance expectations are met.
  • Complete additional department, organization, or network activities as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; nursing assistant certification preferred.
  • Recent experience and/or training in clinical patient care is required.
  • Enrollment in a nursing, pre-med, or physician assistant undergraduate program with a minimum of one semester of completed patient care rotations is preferred.
  • Possession of a valid license, certification, or enrollment in a nursing assistant, medical assistant, mental health technician, or EMT-accredited program is preferred.
Skills and Abilities
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in the English language.
  • Basic skills in math and computer science.
  • Ability to perform, modify, and record all physical therapy skills with relevance to appropriate thoroughness and sequencing.
  • Healthcare Provider CPR certification is required.
  • Knowledge of DPH/OEMS regulations.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements

This role requires working in a fast-paced healthcare environment with frequent exposure to bloodborne pathogens, infectious diseases, and hazardous materials. The physical demands of this role include standing, walking, sitting, and using hands to perform fine motor tasks. The ability to lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds is required. The role also requires working in a noisy environment with moderate to high levels of noise.
