Job Summary

Under the direction of a registered/licensed nurse (RN), the Patient Care Associate assists in clinical support functions to promote a safe, compassionate patient care environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out patient care plans as directed by Registered Nurse.
  • Provide patient physical care, including bed baths, toileting, grooming, and changing bed linen, per established guidelines.
  • Perform patient general care, including positioning, lifting, and turning, and using adaptive and transfer equipment per established guidelines.
  • Conduct patient monitoring activities, such as vital signs and blood glucose, per established guidelines.
  • Prepare patients for meals and assist with meeting their needs.
  • Perform patient rounds regularly and answer call lights promptly to meet patients' needs.
  • Document patient care in a timely manner, adhering to established standards.
  • Organize patient room clutter to maintain a clean environment.
  • Obtain and label specimens consistent with established procedures.
  • Provide mentoring and teaching for new nursing assistants to meet performance expectations.
  • Complete additional department, organization, or network activities per established objectives.
Qualifications and Experience
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required, unless candidate holds a nursing assistant certification.
  • Recent experience and/or training in clinical patient care required.
  • Preferred qualifications include enrollment in a Nursing, Pre-Med, or Physician Assistant undergraduate program, with a minimum of one semester of completed patient care rotations at the time of hire, or possession of a valid license, certification, or enrollment as a student in a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, Mental Health Technician, or EMT-accredited program at the time of hire.
Skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in the English language.
  • Basic skills in math and computer science.
  • Ability to perform, modify, and record all physical therapy skills with relevance to appropriate thoroughness and sequencing.
  • Healthcare Provider CPR certification required.
  • Knowledge of DPH/OEMS regulations.
