Position Overview
The Senior Patient Access Coordinator plays a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of patient registration and demographic information collected during patient interactions. This position is responsible for the collection of copays and deductibles as required, and ensures that all necessary documentation is completed at the point of patient access. The coordinator will also assist management in identifying and resolving areas for improvement.

Key Responsibilities
1. Adjust staffing levels in the absence of the Supervisor/Manager to meet departmental needs.
2. Implement problem-solving strategies and follow up on identified issues, reporting them to management.
3. Serve as a resource for staff in evaluating and addressing patient needs.
4. Effectively manage conflicts and communicate issues to the department supervisor/manager.
5. Maintain a positive attitude towards changes in organizational initiatives.
6. Ensure the availability of necessary supplies and equipment.
7. Uphold a professional and orderly working environment.
8. Demonstrate fiscal responsibility in departmental operations.
9. Provide input for staff evaluations as requested by management.
10. Ensure a high level of accuracy in patient encounter information, aiming for a 97% accuracy rate to meet standards and 99% to exceed them.
11. Verify that current authorizations are in place for scheduled patients upon arrival and notify relevant departments in case of any discrepancies.
12. Collect patient share of costs effectively, aiming for a 50% success rate.
13. Follow hospital protocols for uninsured patients, including referrals to eligibility vendors when appropriate.
14. Maintain knowledge of downtime procedures and execute them with minimal assistance.
15. Ensure all necessary paperwork is signed by patients, including insurance information.
16. Document all interactions in the ADT system accurately.
17. Demonstrate proficiency in all hospital IT systems necessary for daily tasks.
18. Assess and troubleshoot issues with patients and referring physicians independently, adhering to hospital protocols.
19. Exhibit advanced computer skills, including navigating the hospital intranet and internet.
20. Provide exceptional customer service in all interactions.
21. Mentor new employees in developing their skills and competencies.
22. Actively participate in performance improvement initiatives as requested.
23. Show openness to new procedures and offer constructive feedback to supervisors.
24. Meet annual requirements for position competencies and health standards.
25. Maintain a working knowledge of hospital emergency response codes.
26. Attend a minimum of 75% of departmental and organizational meetings.
27. Assist the Department Supervisor with staffing through the utilization of a patient access float pool.
28. Make staffing decisions based on patient volumes and organizational directives in the absence of the Department Supervisor.
29. Participate in new hire interviews and make recommendations for hiring.
30. Assist in developing staff schedules to ensure fiscal responsibility.

Qualifications
To be successful in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:
1. High school diploma or equivalent is required.
2. A minimum of three years of experience in a patient access role is essential.
3. If previously employed at Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare, candidates must have satisfactory performance evaluations and no disciplinary actions within the last twelve months.
