Position Overview:

The role involves the assembly of intricate components, including gating systems, in a diverse and non-repetitive manner to create mold forms for investment.


Key Responsibilities:

Preparation:

Objective: To evaluate patterns and establish assembly techniques.

Typical Activities:

  • Conduct pre-inspections of patterns and gating elements before commencing assembly.
  • Interpret and adhere to detailed assembly instructions, which outline numerous unique steps of a complex nature; strategize methods for completing assignments and select from various assembly techniques.

Assembly:

Objective: To accurately construct complex multi-component patterns while ensuring dimensional accuracy.

Typical Activities:

  • Assemble intricate wax patterns and gating components using torches, hot pencils, and a variety of hand tools.
  • Secure gates in position using torches or hot pencils.
  • Utilize full-time assembly fixtures to maintain dimensional control and stability during the assembly of complex patterns.
  • Adjust fixture/pattern components to rectify configuration discrepancies and confirm dimensional accuracy.
  • Refine and measure the areas around each assembly contact using hot pencils, torches, or paint seal.
  • Regularly modify gates by reshaping, splicing, or reducing to achieve proper fit.
  • Fabricate basic gating from raw materials as needed.
  • May create code sheets for engineering-requested modifications or deviations from standard assemblies.
  • Inspect challenging assemblies throughout and after the assembly process for defects and quality assurance.

Safety:

Objective: To uphold and demonstrate safe working practices.

Typical Activities:

  • Comply with plant and departmental safety regulations.
  • Operate all equipment and tools safely.
  • Identify and report safety concerns.
  • May mentor less experienced assemblers as assigned.
  • Perform additional tasks as required.

Training:

  • On-the-job training will be provided.

Qualifications:

  • Preferred: Two years of experience in production wax assembly.
  • Alternatively: An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Comprehensive understanding of assembly techniques, methods, materials, and fixtures.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate complex written and verbal instructions, along with performing arithmetic calculations.
  • Proven manual dexterity.
  • Capability to lift and maneuver objects weighing between thirty to fifty pounds, and occasionally up to one hundred twenty-five pounds.
  • Ability to work in environments that may involve exposure to noise, fumes, crowding, awkward physical positions, abrasions, cuts, and chemicals.
