Intellectual Property Paralegal Role at DEKA Research & Development

DEKA Research & Development is seeking a highly skilled Intellectual Property Paralegal to join our dynamic IP Team. As a key member of our team, you will provide administrative support to our Intellectual Property Counsel on all matters related to patent and trademark filings, maintenance, and prosecution.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and file patent applications, office action responses, and trademark documents with the USPTO, interacting with USPTO personnel as required.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date Intellectual Property files, ensuring seamless access to critical information.
  • Prepare Information Disclosure Statements, Declarations, Assignments, and Powers of Attorney, coordinating with signatories for document execution.
  • Provide regular docket reports to CPI, including current schedules of active patent and trademark matters, project summary updates, foreign filing listings, and family trees of projects.
  • Review correspondence from USPTO outside counsel, updating CPI with deadlines and other pertinent data as required.
  • Enter new patent and trademark matters into CPI, ensuring timely and accurate data entry.
  • Review monthly outside law firm invoices, preparing a summary of charges, entering into the cost database, and forwarding to Intellectual Property Counsel for approval.
Requirements:
  • 3 or more years of experience as an IP paralegal, with a strong understanding of patent and trademark law.
  • Proficiency with docketing database CPI, as well as strong computer skills with experience in WORD, EXCEL, Outlook, and the USPTO's Patent Center, PAIR, and Financial Manager.
  • Professional demeanor, attention to detail, high-quality work standards, and the ability to prioritize and perform effectively under pressure.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to act independently to meet deadlines.
