Job Title: Paralegal Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Paralegal Specialist to join our staff counsel office for a six-month contract. The successful candidate will support attorneys with litigation matters primarily in Maine and New Hampshire.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review new assignments and assess immediate actions required.
  • Draft and file answers to complaints in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and send initial discovery packages to plaintiffs and codefendants, including interrogatories, requests for production, and notices of depositions.
  • Diary and draft routine motions to expedite the discovery process.
  • Perform investigative duties, including interviewing clients and potential witnesses interviewed by claims prior to litigation.
  • Collaborate with clients to draft discovery responses.
  • Request and coordinate the processing of plaintiff's medical records with record vendors.
  • Create chronologies of medical and other relevant records.
  • Serve as an alter-ego to the attorney, answering routine inquiries from claims and clients.
Requirements:
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of related experience in a legal environment.
  • Associate's degree in Paralegal Studies from an American Bar Association-approved program or a certificate from an accredited paralegal program is preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and experience in insurance defense is a plus.
  • Strong research skills and familiarity with online investigative resources.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to independently prioritize tasks and manage multiple assignments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish sound working relationships and work well with others.
  • Familiarity with court systems and civil procedure in Maine (knowledge of New Hampshire procedures is a plus).
  • Ability to draft substantive motions and legal documents.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Office and word processing software.
Skills:
  • Certified Paralegal
  • Medical Terminology (2 years of experience is required)
  • Research skills (2 years of experience is required)
  • MS Office (3 years of experience is required)
  • Paralegal Studies (2 years of experience is preferred)
  • Insurance (1 year of experience is preferred)
