POSITION:
Production Engineering Specialist (Assembly)

LOCATION:
Blackfoot, Idaho

JOB SUMMARY:

The Production Engineering Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering engineering design assistance, which includes deconstructing CAD models for assembly sequence and ensuring the accuracy of Bills of Material, alongside providing recommendations for manufacturing, assembly, and service (DFX) and developing necessary fixtures.

The Specialist will also engage in Lean initiatives aimed at waste reduction.

These initiatives encompass process enhancement, workflow optimization, standard operating procedures, setup minimization, and promoting continuous improvement alongside employee teams.

A strong understanding of contemporary manufacturing processes is essential, and the Specialist will be expected to spend considerable time actively involved in production areas.

Collaboration and customer service abilities are critical, as the Specialist will interact with employees, supervisors, managers, customers, and external vendors.

A commitment to quality workmanship, meticulous attention to detail, and self-drive are vital attributes for this role. The Specialist will consistently exhibit high levels of responsibility and accountability while working effectively and efficiently.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lean process enhancement:

  • Facilitate and educate employees in improvement initiatives

Engineering design assistance:

  • Design for Manufacturing departments
  • Design for Assembly department
  • Design for Service and Repair department
  • Jigs and fixtures development
  • Engineering documentation for Welding and Assembly departments
  • Production control/ERP support updates to: -Bills of material -Routings
  • Project Management (New Equipment Acquisition). -Preparation – Facility, tools, software, consumables, planning, maintenance -Implementation – Delivery, testing and tuning, training, production hand-off -Continual Improvement – Design for manufacturability, capability presentation, training, KPIs, issue trending
  • Collaborate interactively with Department Managers to achieve departmental objectives.
  • Set positive examples in leadership, safety, and work ethics

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering or a related field.
  • Proficiency in interpreting instructional drawings and schematics.
  • Familiarity with processes, equipment, components, systems, tools, and machinery essential for production, fabrication, and assembly.
  • Capability to effectively manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Strong troubleshooting, critical thinking, and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient in using ERP systems, CAD software, spreadsheets, word processing applications, and other relevant computer systems and software.
  • Basic clerical equipment operation including computers, printers, adding machines, telephones, fax machines, etc.
  • Operation of other machines or equipment specific to departmental or facility needs.

Typical Environmental Conditions:
The worker is subject to indoor environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. There is sufficient noise to require the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level. Includes a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on platforms, and other elevated areas.
  • Exposure to conditions that may affect the respiratory system or skin: Fumes, odors, dust, gases, or poor ventilation. There may be air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.
