JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education:
Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy
Minimum Work Experience: A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a healthcare environment is preferred.
Required Licenses / Certifications: Valid Pharmacist License for the State of Idaho, Controlled Substance Registration - State of Idaho, and BLS certification.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Proficient in reading, analyzing, and interpreting business publications, professional literature, technical procedures, and regulatory guidelines. Strong mathematical skills including probability, statistics, and algebra. Capable of resolving practical issues and managing various concrete variables in situations with limited standardization. Excellent computer proficiency is essential. Strong interpersonal skills are required. Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Responsible for compounding and dispensing medications and other pharmaceutical products.
Maintains comprehensive records related to prescriptions, patient billing, and inventory management, while providing essential information to hospital staff regarding medications and pharmaceuticals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Educates hospital personnel, patients, and the community about pharmaceuticals. Reviews prescriptions from licensed practitioners to verify accuracy and identify necessary ingredients and formulations. Conducts clinical evaluations of patient medications as required. Compounds medications using standard procedures, including weighing, measuring, and mixing components. Supervises other pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, interns, externs, and support staff in the preparation, packaging, and labeling of pharmaceutical products. Ensures adherence to established protocols regarding quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and the disposal of expired and hazardous medications. Inputs relevant data to maintain medication profiles, pharmacy billing, and inventory records. Evaluates medication packaging for identity, purity, and strength. Provides training to interns and other healthcare personnel on pharmacy-related matters. Proficient in using horizontal and/or vertical flow hoods and glove boxes for the preparation of sterile products. Skilled in using weight balance scales for measuring powders and graduated cylinders, flasks, etc. Completed Bariatric Sensitivity Training Competency. Provides care to bariatric patients.
