The Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering is a Full-Time faculty role within the Mechanical Engineering department at Penn State Harrisburg. We are looking for a passionate and committed individual who shares our dedication to education, research, and community service. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in fostering an inclusive and supportive learning atmosphere for students, engaging in collaborative research initiatives, and participating in service activities that align with institutional objectives.
Key Responsibilities: The primary duties of the Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering include:
Teaching: The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching 12 credit hours each semester. Teaching areas may encompass engineering design, computer-aided design and analysis, computational solid or fluid mechanics, and thermofluids. Faculty will be expected to instruct in both undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Additionally, faculty will participate in recruitment and retention efforts, provide academic advising to both undergraduate and graduate students, and oversee graduate student projects.
Research/Scholarship/Creative Contributions: As teaching faculty, lecturers are expected to remain current with pedagogical advancements and integrate them into their teaching practices. They may also be invited to share their insights with colleagues through seminars and conferences.
Service: Faculty members are expected to serve on various committees at the department, school, and college levels to further the mission of the college and university. Faculty will also actively promote and support the school’s commitment to enhancing diversity in STEM fields within their professional and regional communities.
Qualifications: To qualify for the Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering position, candidates should meet the following criteria:
Education: Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
Expertise: The successful applicant will have experience in engineering design, computer-aided engineering, engineering mechanics, or thermofluids.
DEIB Commitment: Faculty members are dedicated to diversifying the representation in STEM fields. Therefore, the successful candidate will be expected to employ teaching strategies that foster learning among diverse student populations and create an educational environment that respects and addresses the varied needs of students at Penn State Harrisburg. The College provides access to a Center for Teaching Excellence with instructional designers to assist faculty in developing inclusive course materials.
Experience: Preference will be given to candidates with prior teaching experience.
