POSITION SUMMARY AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Penn State Harrisburg School of Science, Engineering, and Technology (SSET) is inviting applications for a Research faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level to contribute to the development of a pioneering field known as "Nutraceutical Genomics" under the guidance of the Director of the Central Pennsylvania Bio-fuels Laboratory. Utilizing a cutting-edge laboratory, the faculty member will concentrate on assessing the effectiveness of plant-based natural products as supplements for addressing conditions such as cancer, anxiety, depression, PTSD, cardiovascular diseases, and diabetes.

This role will involve the investigation of plant-derived secondary metabolites in conjunction with cannabinoids. A diverse array of model systems and experimental methodologies will be explored, including the examination of effects on solid tumors such as prostate, lung, colon, and/or breast cancer. Additionally, the candidate will analyze gene expression profiles following treatment with various product combinations to elucidate the mechanisms of action of nutraceuticals.

Qualifications for the Research Assistant/Associate Professor position include:
  • A Ph.D. in Pharmacology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrated history of productive scientific contributions, evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Prior experience in gene transcriptional regulation, bioinformatics, and the application of mouse models.
Preferred qualifications include:
  • Experience in obtaining competitive external research funding.
  • Active involvement in sponsored research initiatives.
  • Capability to conduct independent research and lead projects involving students and colleagues.
Key responsibilities of the research faculty include:
  • Designing and executing research strategies, conducting in vitro/in vivo assays with newly identified or established small molecules.
  • Determining ratios of cannabinoids and plant secondary metabolites, along with methods for administration and therapeutic dosing ranges for various cancer treatments.
  • Conducting toxicology studies with anti-cancer agents.
  • Identifying mechanisms and correlating them with endocannabinoids.
  • Engaging in clinical trials and case studies.
  • Supervising undergraduate students.
  • Performing data analysis.
  • Producing peer-reviewed publications and presenting findings at scientific conferences.
  • Ensuring the integrity of research data.
  • Securing external funding to cover a significant portion of the researcher's salary through grants in subsequent years.
