Position Overview

This announcement is for a temporary volunteer position as an Administrative Support Specialist within the Fayetteville Environmental Management Service (EMS).

This opportunity is available exclusively to current staff members within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) who hold a GS-04 grade or higher. Financial support for travel and per diem may be accessible. Interested individuals must fulfill time and grade requirements along with specialized experience to qualify for this role.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Current federal employees of this agency.
Agency Clarification

This temporary position is limited to current permanent employees of the VHA Department of Veterans Affairs within the Fayetteville VA Medical Center, including any associated clinics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage timekeeping functions using systems such as VATAS.
  • Draft a variety of routine and non-routine correspondence, reports, and documents.
  • Review and finalize documents prepared by colleagues, which may involve technical language.
  • Compose and sign non-technical correspondence in the name of the supervisor or as the secretary.
  • Compile and finalize information for various reports following established protocols.
  • Process incoming and outgoing correspondence, materials, publications, regulations, and directives.
  • Screen incoming mail to determine what requires the supervisor's attention, what should be referred to appropriate personnel, or what can be managed directly.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 7am to 3:30pm

Conditions of Employment

Qualifications

This is a temporary position, not to exceed one year; it may become permanent without further competition. Upon the conclusion of the temporary assignment, you will return to your original position or to a different role of equivalent grade and pay. Temporary assignments may be terminated at any time based on management needs.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Current Federal employees must have held a GS grade within the past 52 weeks to meet time-in-grade requirements. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 level is required. Examples include managing visitor and telephone inquiries, scheduling appointments, coordinating meetings, preparing written communications, arranging travel, and maintaining files. OR, Education: Completion of four years of education above high school in an accredited institution may substitute for experience. OR, Combination: A combination of specialized experience and education beyond high school may qualify.

Physical Requirements: The role is primarily sedentary but may involve some walking, standing, bending, and light lifting.
