Position Overview

This announcement is for a temporary volunteer position not to exceed 120 days as an Administrative Support Specialist within the Veterans Health Administration.

This opportunity is available to current staff members within the organization who are at the GS-04 level or higher. Travel expenses and per diem may be provided. Interested individuals must fulfill time and grade requirements along with specialized experience to qualify for this role.

This temporary promotion, limited to 120 days, is exclusively for permanent employees of the Veterans Health Administration within the designated facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute timekeeping functions using systems such as VATAS.
  • Draft a variety of routine and non-routine correspondence, reports, and documentation.
  • Evaluate and finalize documents prepared by others, which may include technical language.
  • Compose and endorse correspondence of a non-technical nature in the name of the supervisor or in your own capacity as the secretary.
  • Aggregate and finalize information for various reports following established protocols.
  • Assess and manage incoming and outgoing correspondence, materials, publications, regulations, and directives.
  • Screen incoming mail to determine what requires the supervisor's attention, what should be referred to appropriate personnel, or what can be handled directly.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 7am to 3:30pm

Qualifications

This is a temporary promotion, not to exceed one year; it may become permanent without further competition. Upon conclusion of the promotion, you will revert to your original position or to a different role of equivalent grade and pay. Temporary promotions may be terminated at any time based on management needs.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Current Federal employees must have held a GS grade within the past 52 weeks to meet time-in-grade requirements. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 level is required. Examples include, but are not limited to: receiving visitors and telephone calls; scheduling appointments; coordinating meetings; preparing correspondence and reports; arranging travel; and maintaining files. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education, completion of 4 years of education above high school level is necessary. OR, Combination: A combination of specialized experience and education beyond post-high school education may also qualify.

Experience includes both paid and unpaid work, including volunteer work through National Service programs and other organizations.
