Job Overview

This position focuses on enhancing SQDC (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost) within our investment casting foundry, collaborating closely with the operations team and other support functions. The casting engineer will hold technical accountability for all equiax casting processes, operating with a degree of independence.

Key Responsibilities

Primary Duties
  • Establish and oversee production methodologies, including tooling and machinery. Confirm design requirements and the practical application of new products, tools, or equipment on the shop floor.
  • Leverage extensive knowledge of casting methodologies, analytical reasoning, and technical expertise to implement policies and strategies effectively.
  • Possess an understanding of industry best practices and the integration of one's area with others; remain informed about competitors and the distinguishing factors in the marketplace.
  • Utilize sound judgment to suggest and implement diverse solutions beyond established parameters to tackle complex manufacturing challenges involving technical diversity and/or interconnected production cycles. Employ technical acumen and analytical reasoning, drawing from multiple internal and external resources to make informed decisions.
  • Serve as a mentor for less experienced colleagues.
  • Identify and manage capital investments.
  • Lead projects with moderate risk and resource implications. Communicate information effectively; develop skills to guide team members toward consensus on relevant topics. Set performance expectations and may address sensitive matters.
  • Collaborate with Design Engineering to enhance casting manufacturability for both existing products and new product introductions.
Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution or a high school diploma/GED with a minimum of 4 years of relevant casting process experience (preferably in equiax castings) + at least 3 years of casting process experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in casting processes (preferably equiax castings).
  • Familiarity with wax, soluble, and ceramic core die design to effectively communicate requirements to tooling design teams.
  • Experience with RP pattern utilization in a New Product Introduction (NPI) setting (SLA, printed wax, etc.).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of equiax casting processes (wax injection, shell slurry formulation, mold wrapping, pre-heat/pour temperatures, post-casting processes, heat treatment, NDTs (FPI/X-ray)).
  • General understanding of the operational capabilities of an equiax casting foundry to guide design engineering during NPI processes.
  • Proficient in GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
  • Adept at managing multiple concurrent projects.
  • Exceptional communication skills for engaging with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience with high-temperature alloys (INCO 625, INCO 718, Rene 41, etc.).
  • Ability to analyze data to pinpoint project focus areas for enhancing product yield, lead time, and cost efficiency.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required.

  • 4+ years of experience in equiax casting, including but not limited to wax injection, solidification analysis, pre-heat/pour parameters (based on material alloy), post-casting operations, thermal processes, NDTs, inspection procedures.
  • Experience with VSE/SPS is a plus.
