This position will leverage these competencies to enhance SQDC (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost) metrics within our investment casting foundry, collaborating closely with the operations leadership and various support teams. The casting engineer will operate with a degree of independence, holding technical accountability for all equiax casting methodologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and oversee production methodologies, including tooling and machinery. Assess design specifications and the practical application of new products, tools, or machinery on the shop floor.
  • Apply extensive knowledge of casting techniques, critical thinking, and technical expertise to implement policies and strategies effectively.
  • Understand industry best practices and how your area of expertise integrates with others; maintain awareness of competitive dynamics and differentiators in the market.
  • Utilize sound judgment to propose and implement diverse solutions beyond established parameters to tackle complex manufacturing challenges with technical diversity and interdependent production cycles. Leverage technical experience and analytical reasoning, drawing from multiple internal and external resources to inform decisions.
  • Serve as a mentor and resource for less experienced colleagues.
  • Identify and execute capital investment opportunities.
  • Lead projects with moderate risk profiles and resource demands. Communicate information effectively; develop skills to guide team members toward consensus on relevant topics. Articulate performance expectations and manage sensitive issues.
  • Collaborate with Design Engineering to enhance casting manufacturability for both existing and new product introductions.

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution or a high school diploma/GED with a minimum of 4 years of relevant casting process experience (preferably in equiax castings) plus at least 3 years of casting-related process experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in casting processes (preferably equiax castings).
  • Proficient knowledge of wax, soluble, and ceramic core die design to effectively communicate requirements to tooling design teams.
  • Familiarity with rapid prototyping pattern applications in a New Product Introduction (NPI) setting (SLA, printed wax, etc.).
  • Comprehensive understanding of equiax casting processes, including wax injection, shell slurry formulation, mold wrapping, pre-heating/pouring temperatures, post-casting processes, heat treatment, and non-destructive testing (FPI/X-ray).
  • General awareness of the process capabilities within an equiax casting foundry to guide design engineering during NPI initiatives.
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects effectively.
  • Strong communication skills, both with internal teams and external clients.
  • Experience with high-temperature alloys (INCO 625, INCO 718, Rene 41, etc.).
  • Capacity to utilize available data to pinpoint project focus areas aimed at enhancing product yield, lead times, and cost efficiencies.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as necessary.

Preferred Attributes

  • Humble: respectful, open-minded, adaptable, and eager to learn.
  • Transparent: shares vital information, communicates candidly, and contributes constructively.
  • Focused: quick learner, strategically prioritizes tasks, and demonstrates commitment.
  • Leadership: strong communicator, decisive, and collaborative.
  • Problem Solver: analytical thinker, challenges existing processes, and employs critical thinking.
  • 4+ years of experience in equiax casting, including but not limited to wax injection, solidification analysis, pre-heating/pouring parameters (based on material alloy), post-casting operations, thermal operations, non-destructive testing, and inspection processes.
  • Experience with VSE/SPS is a plus.
