Thermal Systems Engineer for Spacecraft Development

We are seeking a skilled Thermal Systems Engineer to join our team at Blue Origin. As a Thermal Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing thermal control systems for our spacecraft.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of heat transfer fundamentals in space environments and experience with Systems Engineering principles. They will also be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and contributing to innovative solutions.
Responsibilities include leading trade studies across the Thermal IPT, developing and managing thermal specifications and requirements, and decomposing system-level requirements into lower-level requirements.
This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Thermal Analysts and Designers, as well as other IPTs, to ensure successful execution of the Thermal Subsystem in the larger spacecraft and mission.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead trade studies across the Thermal IPT and with other IPTs
- Develop & manage Thermal specifications and requirements (at subsystem and component-levels)
- Decompose requirements from system and subsystem-levels into lower-level requirements
- Mentor early-career Thermal Systems Engineers on the Lunar Program
Salary Range: $111,690 - $156,366
Requirements:
- B.S. degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
- 5+ years of relevant Thermal Engineering or Systems Engineering experience on space missions
- Strong understanding of heat transfer fundamentals in space environment
- Familiarity with common spacecraft thermal hardware
Preferred Qualifications:
- M.S. or PhD degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
- 8+ years of relevant Thermal Engineering or Systems Engineering experience on space missions
- Solid understanding of pumped fluid loop hardware such as pumps, cold plates, radiators, valves, heat exchangers, etc and semi-passive devices like sensors and heaters
