Denver, Colorado, United States Blue Origin Full time

At Blue Origin, we are working to make humanity a multi-planetary species. We're developing reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion.

This role is part of the Lunar Transportation business unit, which develops Blue Origin's multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

We are a diverse team of collaborators, doers, and problem-solvers who are relentlessly committed to a culture of safety. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable space flight.

As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers, the candidate performs hand calculations to size fluid systems and components, prepares detailed and assembly drawings for flight hardware parts and ground support equipment, and incorporates design changes using CAD tools. The candidate may support trade studies requiring basic analysis and engineering fundamentals. A Fluids Designer supports engineering system design, functionality, and validation activities.

Specifically, you will share in the team's impact on all aspects of designing, building, testing, and flying Environmental Control and Life Support (ECLS) flight hardware. The ECLS System comprises the essential hardware for humans to inhabit space safely. Within ECLS, the Water Processing and Distribution subsystem receives water byproducts from the Fuel Cells, treats it to remove contaminants, prevents microbial growth, and provides it to multiple interfaces at the proper flow rates, pressure, temperature, and quality levels.

We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work with designers, analysts and responsible engineers across ECLS to ensure that all hardware meets Flammability, Toxicity and Thermal Vacuum stability requirements.
  • Be the point of contact for ECLS with material and process engineers
  • Be responsible for ECLS contributions to material usage agreements and oxygen compatibility assessments.
  • Write ECLS contributions to verification statements.
  • Represent Blue Origin technical solutions to NASA subject matter experts to get buy in for the technical design.
  • Educate your peers about the ins and outs of satisfying NASA material requirements.
  • Work trade studies to balance mass, schedule, customer satisfaction and cost.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in chemical, mechanical, electrical, aerospace, or environmental engineering or related engineering field.
  • Demonstrated understanding of fundamental mechanical chemistry, flammability and toxicity.
  • Organizational skills to manage a large number of verifications and reports for ~20 sub-assemblies.
  • Familiarity and experience with hands-on prototyping and design, experiment design, test methods, and general laboratory skills.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with aircraft or spacecraft life support/environmental control (ECLSS) technologies and architectures.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Strong project management and team leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in JIRA and JAM
