Position Overview:

As a vital member of the healthcare team, the Respiratory Therapist II is responsible for the clinical assessment and provision of respiratory care to patients. This role involves active participation in initiatives that promote the recognition and advancement of the respiratory therapy profession.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Patient Ventilation Support: Deliver respiratory assistance to patients on ventilators, including adults, pediatrics, and neonates. This includes continuous monitoring and evaluation to make informed clinical decisions regarding therapy.
  2. Implementation of Respiratory Procedures: Execute respiratory care protocols, ensuring proper evaluation and recommendations for therapies. Conduct basic assessments such as auscultation of breath sounds and respiratory patterns to determine therapy appropriateness.
  3. Accurate Documentation: Maintain precise and timely records of patient treatments in the electronic health system, ensuring all details are thoroughly documented.
  4. Pulmonary Function Testing: Conduct necessary pulmonary function evaluations, including arterial blood gas analysis and bedside spirometry, ensuring accuracy in testing procedures.
  5. Safe Administration of Medical Gases: Administer mixed medical gases safely while maintaining equipment readiness and compliance with infection control standards.
  6. Competency Assurance: Complete annual competencies on various ventilators and assist in training new staff on specific modalities.
  7. Patient and Staff Education: Provide instruction and support to respiratory and nursing students, medical staff, patients, and their families, ensuring they receive accurate information regarding diagnoses and therapies.
  8. Additional Duties: Perform other responsibilities as assigned and ensure compliance with all position-related obligations.

Qualifications:
Required: Associate's degree from an accredited Respiratory Care Program with a minimum of one year of experience. Licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in the relevant state is essential. A Bachelor's degree is preferred. Maintain certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care.

Working Conditions:
Requires significant manual dexterity and the ability to handle medium to heavy physical effort. Exposure to various environmental factors is expected.
