This role involves engaging in initiatives that promote the importance and recognition of registered respiratory therapists.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Support: Deliver respiratory assistance for patients utilizing ventilators across various age groups, including adults, pediatrics, and neonates. Monitor and evaluate patient conditions, making informed clinical decisions. Ensure a comprehensive understanding of pathophysiology and therapy indications, taking appropriate actions when contraindications or side effects arise.
- Implementation of Care Procedures: Execute respiratory care protocols while evaluating and recommending therapies. Conduct basic assessments such as auscultation of breath sounds and respiratory patterns to determine therapy appropriateness. Provide a range of treatments including medical gas administration, ventilator support, and pulmonary rehabilitation.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely records of patient treatments within the electronic health system, ensuring all details are thoroughly documented.
- Pulmonary Function Testing: Conduct necessary pulmonary function tests and evaluations, including arterial blood gas analysis and bedside spirometry, ensuring accuracy in test execution.
- Safe Administration of Gases: Ensure the safe delivery of mixed medical gases and maintain equipment readiness. Follow infection control protocols and perform pre-use checks on ventilators.
- Competency and Training: Complete annual competencies on various ventilators and assist in training new staff and current team members on specific modalities.
- Patient and Family Education: Provide instruction and support to patients, families, and students regarding respiratory therapies, documenting educational interactions in the electronic health record.
- Additional Duties: Undertake other responsibilities as assigned and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
Qualifications:
- Associate's degree from an accredited Respiratory Care Program.
- Minimum of one year of experience in the field.
- Licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in the relevant state.
- Preferred: Bachelor's Degree and National Board for Respiratory Care certification.
Working Conditions:
- Requires significant manual dexterity and motor coordination.
- Involves medium to heavy physical effort, with potential exposure to various environmental factors.
