Position Overview:

As a vital member of the healthcare team, the Respiratory Therapist II is responsible for the comprehensive clinical assessment of patients and the provision of respiratory care services as needed. This role involves active participation in initiatives that promote the professional recognition of registered respiratory therapists.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Patient Ventilation Support: Deliver respiratory assistance to patients on mechanical ventilation, including adults, pediatrics, and neonates. Monitor and evaluate patient conditions, making informed clinical decisions. Utilize advanced monitoring techniques such as ECG, lab results, and ventilator graphics to guide patient care.
  2. Implementation of Care Procedures: Execute respiratory care protocols, assessing and recommending therapies as necessary. Conduct thorough patient evaluations, including auscultation and respiratory assessments, to ensure the appropriateness of prescribed therapies.
  3. Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely records of patient treatments in the electronic health system, ensuring all details are meticulously documented.
  4. Pulmonary Function Testing: Conduct necessary pulmonary function tests and evaluations, including arterial blood gas analysis and bedside spirometry, ensuring accuracy in all procedures.
  5. Administration of Medical Gases: Safely administer mixed medical gases while maintaining equipment readiness and compliance with infection control standards.
  6. Competency Assurance: Complete annual competencies for various ventilators and assist in training new staff members in departmental protocols.
  7. Patient and Staff Education: Provide instruction and support to respiratory and nursing students, medical personnel, patients, and their families, ensuring they receive essential information regarding diagnoses and therapies.
  8. Additional Duties: Perform other related responsibilities as assigned, fulfilling all compliance obligations associated with the role.

Qualifications:
Required: Associate's degree from an accredited Respiratory Care Program with a minimum of one year of experience. Licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in the relevant state is mandatory. A Bachelor's degree is preferred. Maintain certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care.

Working Conditions:
Essential skills include significant manual dexterity and coordination, with some exposure to occupational risks. The role may require physical effort, including the ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
