This is a unique opportunity to be part of the foundational team for a new undergraduate nursing program at Saint Mary's University, Winona Campus. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing Pre-Licensure program has received approval from the Minnesota Board of Nursing and is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

As a member of the founding faculty, you will engage in the ongoing curriculum development. The newly designed nursing courses and clinical rotations for senior nursing students are set to launch soon. Our Nursing Curriculum employs a concept-based teaching approach and a competency-based assessment strategy. We utilize the Canvas Online Learning Platform, ATI learning resources, and CAE simulation technology to enhance student learning experiences. The Nursing Faculty member will be responsible for developing, teaching, monitoring, and evaluating courses within the baccalaureate pre-licensure program, with responsibilities tailored to individual faculty expertise in classroom, skills lab, simulation, and clinical settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Program Director and fellow Nursing Faculty members in the design and mapping of the nursing curriculum to meet accreditation standards.
  • Deliver instruction in the nursing curriculum through lectures, skills labs, or clinical courses, with a faculty load of 22-24 credits per academic year.
  • Engage in program and course evaluation, including program review and assessment of student learning initiatives.
  • Serve as an academic advisor, providing effective support to students in achieving their academic goals.
  • Stay current with relevant content through the review of academic journals, abstracts, and scientific literature, while demonstrating respect and sensitivity to diverse populations.

Departmental Contributions:

  • Participate in and assist with planning Nursing Department meetings.
  • Contribute to the development of program-specific policies in accordance with University guidelines.
  • Prepare and submit reports on program activities as needed.
  • Assist in the accreditation process by the CCNE.

University Engagement:

  • Participate in University activities, including faculty development, accreditation visits, convocations, and celebrations.
  • Attend faculty meetings, workshops, and university committees as required.

Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Registered nurse license in Minnesota.
  • Graduate degree in nursing or a related field, with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing if the graduate degree is not in nursing.
  • A minimum of three years of clinical patient care experience as a registered nurse.

Preferred:

  • Two years of experience as a nurse educator in clinical or academic settings.
  • Certification as a Nurse Educator (CNE).

  • Experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating nursing curricula.
  • Strong organizational skills, professionalism, innovation, and a student-centered approach.
  • Proficiency in educational technology, including Canvas, Panopto, and ATI products.
  • Ability to engage learners effectively using technology.
  • Collaboration skills to work effectively within a team of nursing faculty.
  • Alignment with the Careful Nursing Philosophy and Professional Practice Model.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Adherence to safety guidelines and procedures established by the university.
