We are seeking a highly motivated and collaborative Civic Engagement Specialist to join our team at Common Cause Education Fund. This role will support our organizing and outreach programs, promoting civic engagement within communities throughout Pennsylvania.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Executive Director, Pennsylvania. The ideal candidate will be able to work in-person in our Harrisburg office at least one day per week and travel throughout Pennsylvania up to three days per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Support engaging, nonpartisan education and outreach activities to drive engagement among new and existing members and expand awareness of our work.
  • Support our work on events, campaigns, and projects, including legislative advocacy campaigns on voting rights and redistricting reform, member lobby days, trainings, and more.
  • Collaborate with other staff to promote activities to our members via social media and other communication channels.
  • Support the development of compelling communications and other materials for our work.
  • Support our election protection activities in Pennsylvania.

Act as a representative for Common Cause:

  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners and members.
  • Attend coalition meetings and other events.

Support our research and advocacy efforts across the state:

  • Assist with research and advocacy efforts on issues such as voting rights, election administration, redistricting, campaign finance, ethics, transparency, national popular vote, and more.
  • Stay up-to-speed on legislative developments on our issues.
  • Collaborate with volunteers and interns to support our work.
  • Support with administrative tasks as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to quickly build relationships and credibility with multiple stakeholders with diverse interests, and a track record of working collaboratively with others.
  • Ability to manage multiple short- and long-term projects and priorities at once, with attention to detail.
  • Strong organization skills, and an ability to manage your time independently.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Critical thinking skills and a resourceful approach to problem-solving.
  • Openness to feedback and awareness of your own strengths and areas for growth.
  • Familiarity with office productivity tools, including Microsoft Office, Slack, and Zoom, as well as social media tools.

Additional requirements:

  • Ability to travel 1-2 times per year in the US for team and/or all staff retreats, and ability to travel to various locations around Pennsylvania up to three days per week.
  • Ability to work in-person in the Harrisburg office at least one day per week.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, especially during the weeks prior to and following each federal election.
