Position Title: TRIO Talent Search Program Student Assistant/Tutor

Department: TRIO SSS/TS Programs Classification: Student Work Study

Location: Learning Resources Center Pay Rate: $10.00 per hour

Supervisor: Director of TRIO SSS/TS Programs

Employment Duration: The employment term for all student work study positions spans from the start of the academic year to the conclusion of the Spring semester. Both supervisors and student workers retain the right to terminate employment at any point during this period. Eligibility for student work study requires enrollment in a minimum of six (6) credit hours and maintaining good academic standing as per institutional policies and federal financial aid guidelines.

Job Overview: Under the guidance of the Director for TRIO SSS/TS Programs, the TRIO Talent Search Program Student Assistant/Tutor plays a vital role in supporting the Director in various aspects of the TRIO Talent Search Program's operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Embrace and adhere to the Mission of Dodge City Community College, which emphasizes a student-centered learning environment aimed at helping students achieve their educational, personal, and career aspirations.
  • Engage in outreach efforts to identify and select eligible participants for the TRIO Talent Search (TS) Program.
  • Communicate the goals and objectives of the TRIO Talent Search Program to students, parents, faculty, counselors, and support staff.
  • Evaluate the academic, career, and personal needs of participants in the TRIO Talent Search Program.
  • Ensure the confidentiality of all personal and academic records of TRIO Talent Search Program participants.
  • Assist in the recruitment and selection of tutors and peer leaders for the TRIO Talent Search Program.
  • Support the planning and supervision of cultural and academic activities, including field trips and campus visits for TRIO Talent Search Program participants.
  • Provide guidance on Kansas public education core curriculum and high school graduation requirements to TRIO Talent Search Program participants.
  • Encourage persistence, retention, values clarification, goal setting, career exploration, and overall student success among participants.
  • Facilitate referrals to additional services as needed to avoid duplication of resources and services at target schools.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Enrollment in and maintenance of six (6) credit hours at Dodge City Community College.
  • Good academic standing is required.
  • Availability during afternoon hours.

  • Strong time management skills.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions.
  • Self-motivated individual.
Physical Qualifications
  • Capability to bend, stoop, jump, kneel, and sit/stand for extended periods.
  • Able to carry equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to navigate stairs and ramps throughout the campus.
