Position Title: TRIO Talent Search Program Student Assistant/Tutor

Department: TRIO SSS/TS Programs Classification: Student Work Study

Location: Learning Resources Center Pay Rate: $10.00 per hour

Supervisor: Director of TRIO SSS/TS Programs

Employment Duration: The employment term for all student work study positions spans from the start of the academic year to the conclusion of the Spring semester. Both supervisors and student workers have the option to terminate employment at any point during this period. All candidates eligible for student work study must be enrolled in and maintain a minimum of six (6) credit hours throughout their employment and uphold good academic standing as per institutional policies and federal financial aid regulations.

Job Overview: Under the guidance of the Director for TRIO SSS/TS Programs, the TRIO Talent Search Program Student Assistant/Tutor is tasked with supporting the Director in various aspects of managing the TRIO Talent Search Program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Embrace and commit to the mission of Dodge City Community College, which aims to provide a student-centered learning environment that enables students to achieve their educational, personal, and career aspirations.
  • Conduct outreach to identify and select eligible participants for the TRIO Talent Search (TS) Program.
  • Communicate the goals and objectives of the TRIO Talent Search Program to students, parents, faculty, counselors, and support staff.
  • Evaluate the academic, career, and personal needs of participants in the TRIO Talent Search Program.
  • Ensure strict confidentiality regarding the personal and academic records of TRIO Talent Search Program participants.
  • Assist in the recruitment and selection of tutors and peer leaders for the TRIO Talent Search Program.
  • Help organize travel and provide supervision for cultural and academic activities, field trips, and campus visits for TRIO Talent Search Program participants.
  • Support TRIO Talent Search Program participants in understanding Kansas public education core curriculum and high school graduation requirements.
  • Encourage persistence, retention, values clarification, goal setting, career exploration, and overall student success among TRIO Talent Search Program participants.
  • Provide referrals to additional services when necessary to avoid duplicating resources and services available in target schools.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must be enrolled in and maintain six (6) credit hours at Dodge City Community College.
  • Must remain in good academic standing.
  • Availability in the afternoons.

  • Excellent time management abilities.
  • Capability to follow detailed instructions.
  • Self-motivated.
Physical Qualifications
  • Ability to bend, stoop, jump, kneel, and sit/stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to carry equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to navigate stairs and ramps throughout the campus.
