Position Overview:

We are in search of an exceptional candidate to join the NAM Equities Valuation Control team as the Valuation Control Lead.

The ideal candidate will possess a robust understanding of global accounting standards and regulatory frameworks related to the valuation of financial instruments, as well as experience in establishing and maintaining a comprehensive control framework.

This role encompasses the valuation oversight of the entire inventory within the NAM Equities sector and necessitates strong interpersonal skills and collaboration across various locations and departments.

Given the technical demands of the position and the high-volume nature of the business, it is crucial that the candidate demonstrates a capacity to grasp the intricate aspects of Equities valuations, enabling them to provide credible insights to a dynamic business environment.

Context of the Role:

The Valuation Control Group (VCG) operates as an independent global entity within Product Control, tasked with the review and consistent reporting of fair value inventory across all asset classes.

VCG is structured by business lines, serving clients such as Business Heads, Line Product Control, Market Risk, Model Risk, Compliance, Legal, Middle Office, Internal Audit, external audit firms, and regulatory bodies relevant to Citi's operations. The group works closely with its clients to ensure a thorough understanding of valuation challenges and the precise execution of valuation control policies.

The successful candidate will oversee specific aspects of the Equities business from a valuation standpoint within NAM. Due to the compact size of the team, hands-on involvement will be expected.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all facets of valuation control for the business, including the validation of market data inputs, reporting, and analysis.
  • Develop and implement methodologies and procedures for valuation adjustments and price testing, with a strong focus on control design.
  • Ensure prompt resolution of regulatory issues, audit findings, and related reporting requirements within the area of responsibility.
  • Establish appropriate controls to guarantee compliance with Valuation Control Policies and Standards.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for discrepancies and price variance breaches.
  • Identify pricing challenges, valuation parameters, or instrument types requiring special attention through critical analysis.
  • Lead global, cross-functional initiatives.
People Management and Leadership:

  • Provide leadership and accountability for segments of NAM Equities Valuations.
  • Act as a business partner to various stakeholders including Business, Risk, Compliance, and Finance.
  • Manage and develop the offshore team.
Control Framework:

  • Enhance and effectively manage the VCG control and governance framework associated with the NAM Equities Business.
Knowledge and Experience:

  • 5-7 years of experience in valuation, risk, or product control disciplines.
  • Strong grasp of global accounting and regulatory developments concerning financial instrument valuation.
  • Ability to comprehend complex concepts and effectively challenge peers in Finance, Risk, and Business sectors.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Skills:

  • Efficiently manage time and work priorities.
  • Perform effectively in high-pressure environments.
  • Design and maintain a robust control framework.
  • Understand cash and derivative valuation methodologies in at least one asset class.
  • Hands-on experience in implementing or enhancing valuation methodologies.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to drive change.
  • Comprehend accounting for fair-valued instruments, focusing on complex/exotic derivatives.
  • Demonstrate excellent people management skills with the ability to train and develop a team.
  • Communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally.
  • Possess project management experience as a plus.
  • Proficient in advanced Excel and MS Office applications.
