Role Summary:

The Chief Golf Course Superintendent plays a pivotal role in ensuring that the golf course and surrounding areas are maintained to the highest standards. This position involves collaborating closely with the General Manager to provide an exceptional golfing experience for members and guests. The Superintendent will lead a dedicated team, focusing on course maintenance, improvement projects, and overall landscape management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and manage a skilled team through effective hiring, training, and leadership.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the golf course, practice areas, and landscaping to ensure optimal playing conditions.
  • Lead renovation and construction projects, coordinating with both internal staff and external contractors.
  • Develop and manage the sod and nursery program to enhance course quality.
  • Implement and monitor fertilization and pesticide application protocols.
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify and recommend improvements.
  • Prepare and oversee the annual budget for course maintenance and enhancements.
  • Manage expenditures related to course operations, ensuring alignment with budgetary constraints.
  • Plan and execute maintenance and project work using agronomic and administrative expertise.
  • Research and oversee the procurement and maintenance of golf course equipment.
  • Ensure the proper operation and maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate products for turf and landscape health.
  • Maintain compliance with regulations regarding chemical usage and safety.
  • Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, pesticide applications, and inventory.
  • Implement a comprehensive safety program in accordance with legal requirements.
  • Engage in regular communication with the General Manager and other leadership to discuss goals and member feedback.

Qualifications:

  • Proven expertise in turfgrass management and course maintenance.
  • Experience in managing various golf course features, including greens and bunkers.
  • Knowledge of landscaping practices and plant care.
  • Familiarity with irrigation systems and their maintenance.
  • Understanding of relevant laws and regulations affecting golf course operations.
  • Financial acumen in budget management and cost assessment.
  • Strong leadership and team development skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Relevant educational background in Turfgrass Management or related fields.
  • Certification in pesticide application or the ability to obtain certification within a specified timeframe.
