Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Early Head Start Teacher to join our team at Hillsborough County. As an Early Head Start Teacher, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality educational services to infants and toddlers in our Early Head Start Program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, develop, and implement daily lesson plans that meet federal performance standards and promote educational and enrichment activities for infants and toddlers.
  • Screen and assess infant and toddler-aged children to determine developmental and educational needs, and develop and implement individual education plans that comply with federal performance standards.
  • Monitor meal and snack periods, classroom and restroom activities, and playground activities to ensure a safe environment for infants and toddlers.
  • Document children's progress and complete all required manual and computerized forms and reports in accordance with federal requirements.
  • Communicate with parents through parent conferences, written correspondence, telephone, and home visits to apprise them of their child's progress, upcoming events, classroom activities, individual education plan changes, and other relevant information.
  • Conduct health checks on children for health concerns, including ringworm, head lice, or other health conditions, and report to the appropriate nurse.
  • Report suspected child abuse and neglect to designated state agencies.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee field trips for assigned children.
  • Request supplies and equipment to be ordered for use by children in the classroom.
  • Inspect classrooms and grounds to ensure the safety, orderliness, sanitation, and cleanliness of facilities.
  • Discuss plans and coordinate concerns regarding the child and family with other Early Head Start staff.
  • Perform First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) as needed.
  • Attend Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) training yearly.
Requirements
  • Associate or higher degree from an accredited college or university in Early Childhood Education or degree in any field with 18 credit hours in Early Childhood Education.
  • One year of experience in teaching Head Start, Early Head Start, or Pre-School children.
  • Infant/Toddler Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or completion of the Child Development Associate (CDA) credential program within 2 years of hire.
  • Obtain within 90 days of employment 40 clock hours from the Florida Department of Children and Families.
  • Developmentally Appropriate Practices for Infant/Toddlers Course (10-hours).
  • Introductory Child Care Training (30-hours).
  • Child Growth and Development (6-hours), Behavioral Observation & Screening (6-hours), Health, Safety & Nutrition (8-hours), identifying and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect (4-hours), Child Care Facility Rules and Regulations (6-hours).
Physical Requirements
  • Regular kneeling, stooping, bending, and sitting on the floor to attend to children's needs.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to provide physical assistance in the transportation of special needs children.
Work Category
  • Medium work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
