Position Overview

Under general supervision, facilitate and enhance services provided to students, their families, and staff at Tulsa County by executing the following responsibilities.

Position Responsibilities

All candidates conditionally offered transfer, promotion, or initial hiring into a DOT/safety-sensitive position shall submit to testing for drugs and alcohol and test negative before performing any job functions that are safety-sensitive or require a CDL.

External job applicants with a confirmed positive drug or alcohol test result shall be denied employment and shall be required to wait one year before applying for another position within Tulsa County.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve as a communication bridge between probation, intake, and the educational institution.
  • Create a thorough evaluation for each student to determine needs and strengths.
  • Execute best practice initiatives for students, their families, and staff to foster a constructive learning atmosphere.
  • Activities may include support groups for students, community mentoring, parent support initiatives, community service projects, and participation in local events.
  • Refer and collaborate with community resources for students and their families, including substance abuse treatment, mental health services, crisis intervention, and community mentoring.
  • Provide and coordinate with educational staff additional resources and services to enhance the learning environment.
  • Conduct comprehensive family assessments to identify specific needs and strengths.
  • Act as a liaison for families to access appropriate community services.
  • Serve as the intermediary between the educational institution and the judicial system.
  • Provide ongoing updates on referred students and their families to the judicial system.
  • Offer advocacy and crisis management support to referred families.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & ABILITIES

Familiarity with community resources; knowledge of evidence-based, best practice model programs and interventions suitable for students and families; and experience working with representatives of the educational system.

Ability to foster and maintain positive relationships with service providers within the context of court referral services; to establish professional connections with students, families, and staff to promote a constructive learning environment; and to collaborate with representatives from local educational systems.

SUPERVISORY SKILLS
This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Education equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in sociology or a closely related field of study; and over three years of satisfactory full-time paid employment in social work, juvenile work, or a related field; experience working with at-risk youth and families in a community setting is desirable.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.) in its most difficult phases. Ability to manage a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

COMPUTER SKILLS
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software; spreadsheet software; and word processing software.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid OK Driver's License possessed for at least 6 months.

Defensive Driving through Tulsa County within 6 months of hire.
