Pediatric Support Specialist (Full-Time) - Evening Shift

Job Overview

The Pediatric Support Specialist is responsible for creating a nurturing environment within healthcare facilities to foster the growth and development of children facing health challenges. This role is essential in alleviating anxiety, enhancing coping mechanisms, and supporting the developmental needs of young patients.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Evaluate, plan, implement, and assess the psychosocial needs of patients and their families to ensure high-quality care.
  2. Develop tailored strategies for each child to promote social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
  3. Address the emotional, educational, and recreational needs of patients undergoing medical procedures through coordinated therapeutic activities.
  4. Oversee and manage play and teen areas, ensuring they are equipped with appropriate resources for therapeutic engagement.
  5. Maintain inventory and safety of supplies and equipment necessary for effective programming.
  6. Utilize resources efficiently to support program objectives.
  7. Train and mentor volunteers and students involved in the Pediatric Support Program.
  8. Provide educational materials to staff, students, and the community to raise awareness about the unique needs of hospitalized children.
  9. Screen and organize community donations and events to ensure safety and appropriateness.
  10. Document observations and interventions in accordance with established protocols.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Child Life, Child Development, Family Studies, Psychology, or a related discipline is required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of child growth and development, family dynamics, and therapeutic play techniques for children with health challenges.
  • Completion of a 600-hour internship in Child Life is mandatory.

Certification Requirements
  • Certification as a Child Life Specialist (CCLS) from the Child Life Council must be achieved within the first year of employment and maintained thereafter.
  • Current CPR Certification is required.
