Key Responsibilities
  • Review and assess underwriting opportunities, including recommendations for accepting/declining risks and premium pricing.
  • Develop and supplement relationships with designated insurance brokers.
  • Create memoranda describing the underwriting/pricing rationale for sign-off by senior management.
  • Maintain all documentation and work with senior management to resolve matters with insurance brokers and policyholders.
  • Approve or deny within given authority.
  • Serve as a resource to other departmental staff with regards to underwriting procedures and other departmental guidelines.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, or finance, or equivalent education/experience.
  • 5 years of underwriting experience in specialty or related area, including a strong working knowledge of state laws.
  • Proficiency in basic financial analysis as it pertains to the commercial credit environment.
  • Excellent communications and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with research tools such as Bloomberg and Factiva.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Studies toward attaining Registered Professional Liability Underwriter (RPLU), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Commercial Underwriting (AU), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), or equivalent insurance designation.
  • State-specific insurance license depending on specialty area.
  • Additional certifications such as Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Manufacturing Risk Insurance Specialist (MRIS), Associate in Surplus Line Insurance (ASLI), Associate in Commercial Underwriting (AU), or Associate in Insurance (AINS).
Compensation

The salary range for this position is $127,000 to $171,800, depending on experience and skillset.
