Job Overview

Position Summary

Under the guidance of the Client Services Manager, the Resident Services Coordinator plays a pivotal role in overseeing the daily operations of community centers within the Housing Authority of the Birmingham District (HABD). This role encompasses the coordination of activities and programs, as well as the establishment of external partnerships to enhance the center's offerings. The position demands sound judgment in the administration of federal programs and effective staff management.

All activities conducted at the center must align with the mission, strategic objectives, and goals of HABD.

Key Responsibilities

The following duties outline the general scope of work. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.

  • Oversees community center personnel, tracking attendance, assessing performance, implementing disciplinary measures, and organizing events and activities.
  • Implements center policies, conducts safety inspections to identify potential hazards, administers first aid as required, and coordinates with emergency medical services when necessary.
  • Plans, organizes, and supervises the tasks of direct reports.
  • Maintains a detailed filing system for community center documentation, including records, forms, and reports.
  • Addresses and resolves resident concerns following established protocols.
  • Monitors center inventory, usage statistics, equipment, and supplies.
  • Assesses recreational facilities and programs for effectiveness, while recruiting and managing volunteer activities.
  • Acts as the coordinator for HABD's Summer Youth Campsite, Internship, and Job Programs, ensuring timely reporting through data tracking systems.
  • Organizes field trips and youth activities, ensuring parental consent and funding is secured in advance.
  • Collaborates with property management and maintenance teams to identify areas needing attention.
  • Facilitates communication between departments and residents, distributing information such as flyers and organizing training sessions on various topics.
  • Maintains the data tracking system for site management.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Job Competencies

Comprehensive knowledge of HABD operations and HUD housing programs, including:

  • Understanding of regulations governing housing programs.
  • Proficiency in office equipment and software applications.
  • Expertise in customer service and resident relations.
  • Ability to interpret and apply relevant laws and policies.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor's Degree in recreation, education, social work, or a related field, with a minimum of two years of community service experience and six months of supervisory experience.
  2. Alternatively, an Associate's Degree or two years of relevant coursework with four years of community service experience and one year of supervisory experience.
  3. Knowledge of team sports and coaching is preferred.
  4. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Technical Skills

Strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office applications, are essential. Ability to learn new software as required.

Physical Demands

This position requires the ability to remain stationary for extended periods, engage in routine office tasks, and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment

The role is primarily office-based with a moderate noise level.
