Job Overview

Position Summary

The Resident Services Coordinator plays a pivotal role under the guidance of the Client Services Manager, overseeing the daily operations of community centers within the Housing Authority of the Birmingham District (HABD). This position entails the orchestration of various activities and programs while fostering partnerships that enhance the center's offerings. The role demands sound judgment in the execution and management of federal initiatives and the coordination of staff.

Key Responsibilities

The following duties outline the general responsibilities associated with this position. Additional tasks may be assigned as necessary.

  • Oversees community center personnel, tracking attendance, assessing performance, implementing disciplinary measures, and organizing events and schedules.
  • Implements center policies, conducts inspections to identify safety concerns, administers first aid as required, and alerts emergency services when needed.
  • Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of team members.
  • Maintains an organized filing system for community center documentation, including records, forms, and reports.
  • Addresses and resolves resident grievances in accordance with established protocols.
  • Manages inventory and usage of center resources, including equipment and supplies.
  • Assesses recreational facilities and programs for effectiveness, and recruits volunteers to assist with activities.
  • Acts as the coordinator for summer youth camps and job programs, ensuring timely reporting through data management systems.
  • Organizes field trips and youth activities, ensuring compliance with parental permissions and funding protocols.
  • Collaborates with property management and maintenance teams to identify areas needing attention.
  • Facilitates communication between departments and residents, distributing information and organizing training related to various programs.
  • Maintains data tracking systems for effective management and reporting.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

Extensive knowledge of HABD operations and HUD housing regulations is essential. Candidates should possess:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in recreation, education, social work, or a related field, with at least two years of community service experience and six months of supervisory experience; or
  • An Associate's Degree or two years of relevant coursework, with a minimum of four years of community service experience and one year of supervisory experience.
  • Preferred knowledge in team sports and coaching.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Technical Skills

Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Office Suite, is required. The ability to learn new software as needed is essential.

Physical Requirements

Employees must be able to perform essential functions, which may include remaining stationary, operating office equipment, and occasionally lifting up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment

This position is primarily office-based, with a moderate noise level.
